ABOUT
Raised in New England in a traditional Saltbox, Suzan’s aesthetic was highly influenced by Primitive antiques. This combined with the impact of her grandmothers affinity for Hollywood Regency, and spending her impressionable years in her fathers haberdashery, Suzan quickly developed a mastery in luxury design and fashion.

Having a familiarity with many forms of art, business, and design, Suzan went on to become successful in a wide spectrum of creative ventures. She was a pioneer in Soho in the 1970s, when she opened “Sioux City”, a cowboy-meets-disco boutique. She was an award winning member of the theater circuit, a restaurateur, and her clothing line, Chest N Drawers, led her to tour with the Lilith Fair. Her design work ranges from the restoration of a 1920s Mediterranean/Moroccan home in Los Angeles, to a miners cabin in Big Bear Lake; from landscaping gardens to creating outdoor living rooms; from decorating commercial office spaces to her signature “Jewelboxed” guest quarters. In addition, she was commissioned to design a laptop for HP, along with 7 other designers including Rebecca Minkoff and Shepard Fairey, which was recently exhibited at the New Museum in New York.

Suzan credits the surrealist movement as being a monumental inspiration for her work: Salvador Dali, Elsa Schiaparelli, Max Ernst, and Jean Cocteau. Their work has given Suzan a sense of fearlessness, and the confidence to create without boundaries. She strives to make the ordinary extraordinary, taking traditional design principles and falling back on her theatrical background. Her work ranges from primitive to modern -Hollywood glamour with a bohemian element, often utilizing an unusual juxtaposition of objects and elements to create design tension with a unique element of surprise and humor.

In 2006, Suzan opened a theme-based showroom in Los Angeles where she could combine all the elements of design, fashion, and theatrics, to stage her own creative vision. A past installation at her Los Angeles showroom celebrated the work of Celia Birtwell, England’s legendary textile artist, and muse to David Hockney. Currently, the showroom is featuring the work of Cecil Beaton with his line of textiles and wall papers, and is the U.S. exclusive distributor. Her own line of luxury furnishings made from vintage designer scarves, entitled the ‘Reserved Seating Collection’, has made waves in the decorative arts world. Currently she is continuing her collection with the addition of the ‘Cast Vintage Scarf Lucite Coffee Table’ and the ‘Vintage Scarf Shaded Chandelier’ draped with real pearls and vintage Chanel beads.

Suzan’s technique developed out of a desire to breathe new life into treasured pieces from the past. With the current design environment, this has made Suzan a trailblazer in green luxury furnishings and objects d’art. Her style perfectly straddles the line between artistic surrealism and timeless elegance. While the showroom is always in flux, it is Suzan’s unique personal vision that keeps it fresh and like nothing else in the city.
